Years 7 and 8

Students arrive to us at a range of levels from level 1 all the way up to level 6. So we set the students by ability from the beginning so that each and every student is in a group with similar ability students. This allows us to provide them with an appropriate level of work that supports their needs and allows them to improve their Mathematics. The students can then be moved up or down as and when this is required.

Year 7, 8 and 9 will now be beginning a new "mastery" curriculum. We have decided to cover topics for longer and in more depth, rather than racing through lots of different topics and students often fail to really understand why things work the way they do. Please see the homepage for more details.

This new approach comes with new schemes of work that ensure we cover all the different areas of Mathematics in a variety of ways and with a range of resources. This means they could work from a textbook one lesson, use an Ipad the following lesson and then be outside measuring the circumference of trees at the end of the week. Homework is set twice per week and could be a written task, an activity, a worksheet or a MyMaths online homework. You can find everything that is set on ShowMyHomework. You can search through subjects, teachers etc. However, getting your unique student and parent logins allow you to see exactly what you need to!

Year 7 Rock club Maths days

Year 7 students experienced a Maths day in the last week of September where they planned their own stadium gig with the added incentive of winning tickets to Rock Assembly, Wembley (July 2016). They needed to apply their maths to everyday scenarios including using data to decide on which acts to invite, managing a budget, designing stage layouts and lighting, estimating quantities for catering, deciding on the most successful play list and much more. All students were engaged and demonstrated Tallis Character traits.
